    Welcome to HR News. In this months issue we take a look at a few of the headlines from the recent emergency budget and how it will effect employees. We also look at the lack of provision that over 50 females are making for retirement and how to handle difficult staff who are in the grips of World Cup, Wimbledon and festival season.

    In this months edition of HR News we look at the recent CIPD survey, which has found that many businesses are still not encouraging fathers to take paternity leave despite their legal entitlement to do so. We also look at the importance of promoting health and well being in the workplace and reducing staff presenteeism. Finally we review the need to acknowledge that if staff training is required, it must be provided and the outcomes actively monitored.

    Welcome to the May edition of HR News. World cup fever will soon be upon us, but are we prepared as employers to deal with a surge in annual leave requests, and staff absences due to 'sickness.' We will take a look at the implications of this in this months issue. Mother Nature, yet again, has thrown HR professionals a real challenge with the chaos to both travel and work due to the volcanic eruption in Iceland. This issue also focuses on how staff absences due to family problems equals absences due to serious ill health, such as heart attacks and cancer. Finally we look at social networking, could your business be in danger of a discrimination claim?

    In the April issue of HR News we look at topical news stories that have recently hit the headlines. The South African World cup is getting close and organisations are being urged to look at their policies regarding time off and flexible working during this period. We also look at the new 'time off for training' rules which comes into effect on April 6th, and the alarming news surrounding pensions, how, as a nation, we are becoming 'financially unfit' to retire. Finally with the election looming we look at a study by the British Chamber of Commerce which found that 65% of firms surveyed were either 'concerned' or 'very concerned' about the potential of their being a hung parliament.

    In this month's HR News, we will be looking at three main stories that have hit the headlines recently. One of the most alarming is that the nation seems to be in the grips of working excessive unpaid overtime. With many people still fearing for their jobs, the need for employees to work extra hours has increased to alarming levels. We also look at the need for HR Departments to make fathers more aware of their paternity rights. Lastly, we focus on the story that has recently broken regarding a leading charities concern over redundancy being used to get rid of elderly staff.

    Our February edition of HR News takes a look at staff absences during harsh weather, and with the threat of more bad weather to come, business groups across the UK are urging organisations to be more flexible with their employees if they are unable to reach their place of work. It has not only been a long winter, but we have also been in the grips of a long recession. Whilst this is now officially over, the CIPD has warned of the long term after-effects on the workplace and in particular staff morale. We also look at some latest news only announced a short while ago that health questionnaires prior to employment could become illegal.

    HR News for January looks at what could be in store for HR Professionals in 2010. We take a look at employment law changes and how organisations can plan for the upturn, including budgeting for investments to achieve their business goals in the year ahead. We also look at The Equality Bill proposed changes, which looks to be approved by the next General Election.

    HR News for December includes details of the new ruling from the EU Court of Justice, which allows employees to reschedule their holiday if they are ill for part of their annual leave. Other stories include the change in law relating to paternity leave and pay, a report on how stress is a major cause of workplace absence and the need for HR managers to educate employees about flexible working rights.

    HR news for November includes a review of the Softworld exhibition held in October - the UK's largest and most established HR and Payroll Software exhibition. Other stories include the need to organisations to prepare for a second wave of Swine flu, how job satisfaction has fallen in the UK and how HR professionals must ensure their workplace offers people the development opportunities they want.
